“The project, being the first and largest of its kind in the world, was developed by CHN Energy’s Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd. and will serve as a model for the development of large-scale offshore PV projects in the industry,” said the state-owned company in a press release.
Once completed, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power 2.67 million homes in China. The project aims to reduce China's reliance on fossil fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions. CHN Energy
CHN built the project through its subsidiary Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd. It aims for this offshore PV plant to serve as a ‘model’ for the development of large-scale offshore PV projects in the industry. The company shared that the project also integrates fish farming with PV generation to make maximum use of the marine area.
Located eight kilometers offshore from Dongying of Shandong, the project marks a significant milestone for both China and the global offshore solar industry, it said. The one gigawatt project uses cutting-edge steel truss platform technology to install 2,934 solar platforms.
