The lithium–sulfur (Li-S) battery is considered to be one of the attractive candidates for breaking the limit of specific energy of lithium-ion batteries and has the potential to conquer the related energy storage market due to its advantages of low-cost, high-energy density, high theoretical specific energy, and environmental friendliness issues.
The initiative will be the first solar park in Chile integrated into a lithium battery bank for energy storage, which will allow to inject solar energy into the system at night. The 112 MW of batteries that, together with Fluence, will be part of this project, make it the largest battery storage system in Latin America, capable of supplying power to the grid for 5 hours.
With the rising of energy requirements, Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) have been widely used in various fields. To meet the requirement of stable operation of the energy-storage devices in extreme climate areas, LIB needs to further expand their working temperature range. In this paper, we comprehensively summarize the recent research progress of LIB at low temperature from the

In roadshows last year, 97 companies expressed interest in investing in Chile''s lithium industry — both upstream and processing — as the nation prepares to open up new production areas under a public-private model.
Chilean authorities are expected to grant Enami a lithium operating license by year-end, paving the way for the state company to secure partners to develop the project.
However, owing to increased battery impedance under low-temperature conditions, the lithium-ion diffusion in the battery is reduced, and the polarization of the electrode materials is accelerated, resulting in poor electrochemical activity and a drop in capacity during cycling. This issue is greatly hindering the further advancement of LIBs.
viscosity/temperature ratios. Because lithium and its com-pounds possess these attributes, many commercial applications have arisen over the past century. (Bloomberg) -- Chile has identified new lithium areas that will be offered to the private sector as authorities attempt to tap more of the world’s biggest reserves of the battery metal, despite a current glut in the global market.
Currently, only two companies produce lithium in Chile — SQM SA and Albemarle Corp. — from a single salt flat. Under Boric’s public-private model for the sector, the state will take a controlling stake in operations considered strategically significant, while allowing private firms to retain control of projects in non-strategic areas.
Separately, Enami is undertaking indigenous consultation as part of permitting requirements, while 30 firms and consortia — including Rio Tinto Plc and Schlumberger NV — are participating in a process to chose a direct lithium extraction methodology.
